This lesson follows on from Tarot Lesson Week 5 – The Travellers.
Unlike the Queen in the court cards, the Ladies in the Major Arcana do not necessarily represent a woman in your life. They do, however, represent feminine energy, especially intuition.
The Ladies are:
- XVII The Star
- II The High Priestess
- III The Empress
So why did I put the Star first even though it actually shows up later in the deck with a higher number?
Because the Ladies listed in this order represent the three stages of womanhood: Maiden; Mother; Crone.
What do we do with stars? “When we wish upon a star…” We wish upon them. We hope for things to come true. Just like we do when we are a young woman. We have wishes and hopes for the future. We are altruistic in our thinking and we want to heal the world.
The High Priestess
Remember when you were a young woman and you devoured how to books? Parenting is a good example. Authors make a fortune selling books to first time soon-to-be mothers. By the end of the first baby, all the books are gathering dust. We realize that parenting is all about experience and we start to look inward for answers. We come to realize that the only real way to deal with a teenager is to truly listen to them. Be it parenting, or just general living, we start to rely more and more on our intuition.
The Empress is the matriarch of the Ladies. She has been there done that, and has learned to let go. Because of her own journey to self-love she is able to express universal love. She is creative and inspires everyone to give birth to their own dreams and imagination.
This layout is a fun way to discover all aspect of the feminine in you. It is a large layout, 9 cards, but don’t let that freak you out. The best way to read the cards is to jump in and do it. Remember, there are no wrong answers!
- Put the three Ladies on the table in front of you to inspire you.
- Remove all the Major Arcana from your deck and shuffle just the Minor Arcana.
- Draw 9 cards from the deck and place on the table as per this layout below called Discover Your Inner Goddess.
- In your journal, interpret each card as per the questions associated with the position of the card.
Position 1: Mother – What do you nurture? How do you create?
Position 2: Virgin – What is a mystery to you? How do you celebrate your image?
Position 3: Siren – What attracts others to you? How can you celebrate your sexuality?
Position 4: Sorceress – What do you control and manipulate? How can you change your life?
Position 5: Wise Woman – What do you know deeply? How can you share your knowledge?
Position 6: Fairy Godmother – What gifts can you give to the world and others? How do others approach you?
Position 7: Wife – What are you married to? How do you devote yourself to things?
Position 8: Hags – What in you is ugly and terrifying? How can you come to terms with this monster?
Position 9: Amazon – What would you fight for? How can you develop your courage and determination?
There are going to be times when you cannot read the cards for love nor money. This is perfectly normal. Do not force it.
You have several options:
- Draw some extra cards to see if they help clarify the reading
- Leave the layout intact and come back to it later
- Pack it all up and try another tool
- Pack it all up and just let it mull around at the subconscious level
The answer will come to you eventually. You just have to trust in that.
Stay curious, my lovelies!
